Dr. Liu earned her Graduate degrees (M.M. and Graduate Diploma) at New England Conservatory with James Buswell, and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at SUNY-Stony Brook under the guidance of Pamela Frank and Philip Setzer. Dr. Liu happily performs on a modern instrument made by Douglas Cox in 2002.
